Sanctuaries in the Snow

The Jake Foerster Shrine (Snowmass)

The Jake Foerster Shrine is on Snowmass.  I found it on April 12, 2014.  Jake Foerster died on August 21, 2013.   See this August 22, 2013 Aspen Times article, "Autopsy set for 22-year-old man, Jake Foerster, from Snowmass"   https://www.aspentimes.com/news/autopsy-set-for-22-year-old-man-jake-foerster-from-snowmass/#:~:text=Local%20authorities%20have%20confirmed%20the,recently%20lived%20in%20British%20Columbia.

The shrine was created in January 2014 by Shelby Burke, Olivia Davis, and Kelsey Margaret McCartney.  Since then, other people have added various things to the shrine.

See Jake Foerster's Facebook page here:   https://www.facebook.com/jake.foerster.52.   It says he was a DJ/Producer for FieVeL & LOLO, Denver, Colorado.   His page also says that August 14 is his birthday, and shows these as his last two posts:  1.  August 16, 2013, Oh Colorado how I missed you. Back home and it feels so good!!  I'll be in the valley for a week before I gotta journey out to the playa so get at me friends and lets cheeel !!  Oh and thanks so much for the birthday wishes everyone! I love you all so much!!!  2.  August 20, 2013 (the day before he died), Been so good to see all my friends these past couple days back at home I haven't seen all summer!!! Love you all so much!!! No place like home.

See this Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/FIEVELandLOLO/  It states that the page is "A Tribute to Jake Powell Foerster / Fievel."

According to this page, Jake was known musically as "FieVel."  Click here:  http://soulsinaction.com/a-family-affair-refievel-a-tribute-to-jake-powell-forester/

Four photos of this shrine are shown immediately below.  For more photos and other information about the shrine, see this Facebook photo album (you do not need a Facebook account to view this album):  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.637107349694566.1073741939.100001859201674&type=1&l=7b4d53e418.

On the Rim Trail above Snowmass Village there is a look out site that has 360 degree views of Snowmass, Mt. Daly, Capital Peak and the Ziegler Reservoir.  This spot is known by three different names:  Spiral Point, Yin Yang, and the Stark King Memorial.  See these two pages for more information on this:  http://www.aspentrailfinder.com/spiral-point/  and  http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/home/168176

An engraved bench is nearby (installed by Jake's father, E.J.) which reads as follows:  “Just remember Fievel – one man’s sunset is another man’s dawn.  I don't know what’s out there beyond those hills.  But if you ride yonder… head up, eyes steady, heart open… I think one day you'll find that you're the hero you've been looking for.  Jake Foerster 8/14/91 – 8/21/13.”  This quote is from a 1991 movie called "An American Tail:  Fievel Goes West."  As stated above, "FieVel" was Jake's nickname.  Photos of this bench are below, photo credit to Dr. Alex Goldberg.
